Ryan Reynolds: One of Hollywood’s Hottest Stars

Ryan Reynolds is a native of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. His first acting gig came in 1990 appearing in a Canadian soap opera for teenagers entitled Hillside. The show was repackaged as Fifiteen and was aired in the United States on the Nickelodeon television network. Ryan has since appeared in more than 25 films.

Fifteen aired on Nickelodeon until 1993. Following the end of that series, Ryan Reynolds appeared in minor roles in several made for TV movies in Canada. He became disillusioned with the movie business and had decided to call it quits. A fellow actor talked him out of it and convinced him to move with him to Los Angeles. During his first night there, his car was stripped. The thieves took the doors and Reynolds drove the car for several months without them.

Ryan Reynolds luck improved in 1997 when he got the part of a medical student named Berg in the sitcom Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place. Although the show didn’t receive great critical acclaim, it aired for 81 episodes and demonstrated Reynolds’ comedic ability. Ryan Reynolds returned to comedy again, this time on the big screen, in National Lampoon’s Van Wilder. In one of his best known and most popular performances, Reynolds played party animal and title character Van Wilder. The film was a hit and established Ryan Reynolds as a formidable comedic actor. Reynolds has said that for years following the release of the film, people would buy him shots wherever he went.

Ryan Reynolds: Action Star and Beyond

Ryan Reynolds bio includes a number of comedies since Van Wilder including Just Friends, Waiting, and The Change-Up. In Just Friends Ryan got to display his physical comedy abilities, portraying a once obese teen who has gone on to be a fit, womanizing actor. Most recently, Reynolds appeared with fellow funny man Jason Bateman in The Change-Up. It followed an age old Hollywood formula of two characters changing places, but the chemistry between Ryan Reynolds and Bateman made it work.

It hasn’t been all laughs for Reynolds in recent years. He has become a very good dramatic actor as well as an action star. This was followed up with him acting alongside Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. In it, Ryan Reynolds was cast as Deadpool, a character which will get his own long awaited film in 2014. In, the summer of 2011, the actor appeared as the lead character in the big budget DC comics event movie, Green Lantern. A sequel has already been planned.

R.I.P.D. (Rest in Peace Department) will see Ryan Reynolds in another comic book movie in 2013 as an undead cop alongside Jeff Bridges. He has long expressed interest in playing another DC superhero, The Flash. As busy and popular as the star is, it looks like we’ll be seeing Ryan Reynolds movies for some time to come.
